SPORT ACADEMY 7/8

Term TWO

June 21st.  The class has made it through the bones, muscles, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, learned about asthma and also made some shocking discoveries about sugar.  We are now working on refining our skills to be able to teach others.  The students are discovering that it's not so easy to teach someone else how to perform a skill.
Next week most are involved in the mud run - such a fun event.

Wow, what a whirl wind start - this class is working so hard!  We've covered all the bones we will learn, how our bones grow, break and heal.  We have worked on some basketball, soccer tricks, rugby skills and table tennis.  Each week the students have designed and completed a tough physical circuit.  Last week we started learning all about muscles and how they work.  This week (June 8) we will learn about the heart and lungs and how they affect our sports performance.

March 31st
What a great trip we had down to the KUMEU GYM.  It was great fun and the students certainly learned a lot.  They especially enjoyed the rope challenge.  Next week we will revisit what we have learned about the heart and add this to learning about our lungs and how they work.  The students have a really sound knowledge of bones and muscles and we add to this each week.  This week we looked at handstands, cartwheels and balance beam exercises (with some hilarious results!)

PLEASE BRING YOUR TOGS THIS WEEK.

March 9th

We finished up the bones today.  You are all superstars!  We learned about how a muscle works to pull our bones then we learned how to do a 'proper' pressup to find out pecs.  Fitness circuit was smashed out and then we came back in to test our brains with a couple of quizzes.  I am really truly impressed with the level of learning going on with this group.
Netball is the sport of the day and we looked at W passing, shooting goals and then had a game.

March 2nd
Wowsers - lots of information this week!  We finished the skeletons and learned the next lot of bones. We looked at how surgeons can use screws and plates to fix our different types of fractures.  The vote was for some burpees in this week's fitness circuit! - I'm impressed with the determination of this group.
We learned about 'cartwheel bowling' for our cricket skills and then headed out for a game.  21 runs to 18 - it was close!
Keep up the sport, see you next week for our last lot of bones, some muscles and more sport and fitness.

Much sunnier this week!
Today we learned about the bones in out legs and feet. Can you remember all of them? The coolest word of the day was "phalanges"!  The laminator ate one of the skeletons but the rest will be ready for next week.
We learned about what is inside our bones and how to keep them strong and healthy. Check out our posters on the room 1 windows.
Our fitness circuit was tough but everyone worked hard.  Please keep up your fitness this week.
This week we looked at soccer skills.
